The following exercises are designed to maintain and improve dexterity, coordination, flexibility, strength, endurance, circulation and general health of your hands, wrist and forearm.
VARIGRIP THERAPY INSTRUCTIONS:
To increase resistance level, turn resistance knob counter-clockwise. It is important to begin all exercises slowly and to use low resistance with few repetitions. Hold each position for 3-5 seconds and relax. Repeat 5 or 10 times. Over time, increase to 3 sets of 10 (30 repetitions total). When graduating to a higher resistance level, begin again with 5-10 repetitions and build slowly, increasing repetitions steadily and cautiously.
VariGrip Therapy: Hook Position
Place fingertips on numbered buttons (1 for index finger, 2 for middle finger, 3 for ring finger, 4 for small finger), and position the curved end of the palm bar in the curved space between thumb and index finger. Keeping fingertips slightly bent, flex all fingers downward toward the center of the unit to compress springs.
VariGrip Therapy: Gross Grasp
Place the middle of the fingers on numbered buttons (1 for index, 2 for middle, 3 for ring, 4 for small) with fingertips wrapped over the top. Resting the bar across the palm at the base of the thumb, flex the thumb and all fingers toward the center of the unit, as if making a fist.
VariGrip Therapy: Tip-To-Tip Pinch
Place the tip of the thumb on the indented center of the palm bar. Position the finger being exercised on one of the numbered center buttons (2 or 3). Keeping both tips slightly bent flex the thumb and the finger toward the center of the unit at the same time.
VariGrip Therapy: Trigger Pinch
Securely hold the unit vertically with the buttons toward the fingers and the curve of the palm bar positioned over the curved space between the thumb and index finger. While keeping all other fingers in grip position, bend the index finger around the top button (1) as if squeezing a trigger.
VariGrip Therapy:
Tripod Pinch
Place the thumb tip in the indented center of the bar with the index finger and long fingertips resting on the two center buttons (2 and 3). Keeping the fingertips bent, flex the thumb and fingers toward the center of the unit at the same time.
VariGrip Therapy: Fingertip Flexion
Place all fingertips on the numbered buttons (1 for index, 2 for middle, 3 for ring, 4 for small), with the tip of the thumb on the indented center of the palm bar. Keeping all fingertips slightly bent, flex the thumb and all the fingertips toward the center of the unit at the same time.
VariGrip Therapy: FINE MOTOR EXERCISE: DEXTERITY TRAINER
Remove palm bar. Place tension knob between thumb and index fingertips. Slowly rotate counter-clockwise until the tension dial reaches the top. Reverse motion until the tension dial reaches the bottom. Switch fingers and repeat until completed with each finger.
VariGrip Therapy: Intrinsic Plus Position
Place the indented center of the palm bar at the base of the thumb with the numbered buttons resting at the base of the fingers (1 for index, 2 for middle, 3 for ring, and 4 for small). While holding the tips of the fingers straight out, bend only the base of all the fingers and the thumb toward the center of the unit at the same time. If needed, use other hand to stabilize VariGrip™.
VariGrip Therapy: Thumb Flexion
Thumb Tip: Place the middle of the fingers on the palm bar and the TIP of the thumb on the second or third button (whichever is more comfortable). Flex the thumb down towards the fingers.
Thumb Base: Follow the above instructions except place the BASE of the thumb on the second or third button (whichever is more comfortable). While holding the thumb tip straight out, flex the base of the thumb.
Note: For increased resistance, place thumb in the center of the second and third buttons and flex.
VariGrip Therapy: Thumb Opposition
Place the curved end of the palm bar over the base of the small finger with the base of the thumb resting on the end button (4). Flex thumb in a downward motion toward the base of the small finger.
Note: For increased resistance, place thumb in the center of the second and third buttons and flex the second and third buttons.
VariGrip Therapy: Key Pinch
Place the curved end of the bar on the side of the bent index finger and the thumb on Button 1. With the tip of the thumb slightly bent, begin to flex.
VariGrip Therapy: Thumb Trainer for Texting and Gaming
Remove palm bar. Interlock fingers. Stand the unit right side up, resting on the interlocked fingers so that thumbs are resting on Buttons 1 and 2. Press Button 1 with thumb, followed by Button 2 with other thumb. Move first thumb to Button 3, and second thumb to Button 4. Continue alternating thumbs to different buttons in a smooth rhythmic motion, as if playing an instrument.
